Shanleys are now a FSC & PEFC approved company. As a company, we feel that it is very important for us to do our part in caring for the environment.
By gaining not only FSC status but also PEFC accreditation means we can now help you to choose environmentally friendly paper for your print – at no extra cost.
What is FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-for-profit organisation, which promotes responsible management of the world’s forest plantations and the environment.
Its membership includes The National Trust, the Forest Management Foundation, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace UK, The Woodland Trust, WWF UK and a number of international retailers.
The FSC stamp provides assurance that paper is manufactured from the material sourced from forests certified according to strict environmental, social and economical standards.
The FSC system demands direct traceability to particular wood sources and provision of a chain of custody throughout the supply process, including paper mills, merchants and printers.
What is PEFC?
It is like VHS & Betamax! FSC procedure has been adopted by one group of countries for its environmental management and PEFC by a different group of countries. Overall, they work to the same goal of investing in a better future for the global planet.
Rather than choosing to go FSC or PEFC, Shanleys are in the enviable position of being able to offer both to clients.
Shanleys Environmental Policy is to reduce waste and the use of harmful chemicals from the entire production process of printing.
What do we actually do to be FSC / PEFC approved?
As a printer, we are required to ensure that throughout our production processes, we can identify what paper has been used, and that if FSC or PEFC paper is specified by the customer, then only FSC or PEFC paper will go through our printing presses.
